Racer X es una banda fundada en 1984.

Se hizo conocida por el estilo rápido y técnico de tocar la guitarra de Paul Gilbert, capaz de tocar bases rítmicas muy potentes y solos de guitarra muy rápidos.

Componentes de la banda : Su formación original estaba compuesta por:

Paul Gilbert (guitarra)
Jeff Martin (voz)
John Alderete (bajo)
Harry Gschoesser (batería).
En 1986 se da un cambio fuerte en la banda: Scott Travis, quien luego formará parte de Judas Priest, reemplaza al batería original e ingresa Bruce Bouillet como segundo guitarrista. Para muchos, a partir de este momento comienza la mejor época de la banda. Bruce Bouillet tenía un estilo similar al de Gilbert, y ambos guitarristas repartían su virtuosismo en las canciones, armonizando secciones muy técnicas y haciendo duelos de guitarra.

En 1988 Paul Gilbert decide hacer un paréntesis en la historia de Racer X para formar Mr. Big con el bajista Billy Sheehan.
